Staircases that require carpet or flooring fitted over the treads and riser are constructed with MDF.

We will need to know the thickness of the material that you are adding to the stairs.

A staircase can be built to allow carpet, engineered or sold timber flooring to be fitted at a later stage. Kit Stairs provides cost effective closed rise, closed stringer staircase for this application. We will require the flooring allowances for your lower and upper floors as well as the material and its thickness during the design process.

Why cover your stairs with carpet or timber flooring?

Most designers choose to cover the treads and risers for many reasons. Carpet, for example, provides noise reduction, while timber is durable and cost effective in flooring sizes and in solid 30mm material. The most common reason is due to design; to keep a continuous flow between levels of your home.

Engineered flooring can come in a variety of textures and colours that can be difficult to reproduce on a solid timber tread. Covering your staircase with the flooring will provide the continuous flow of the floor between levels. Carpet on the other hand is normally seen in the upper level of a home. Carpeting the staircase can bring an element of the upper design style into the lower level.
